Happy birthday, Pokemon black and white!
7 years ago, Pokemon black and white was released! Yay!
Note, that was yesterday, whoops. Happy belated birthday then.
Yeah boii! :D
With Gen 5 came Pokémon Conquest, the series best spinoff. Good job, Black and White.
Terrible game, just the worst. Everything was wrong with it. Actually that's a lie, N was in it. He's cool. Everything else was bad. I soloed that game with that elemental monkey up until the sudden like 20 level spike at the endgame.
*TRIGGERED PRIM NOISES* But yeah, Gen 5 did have its flaws, but it was the first "3D-ish" DS game we got for the main series. It was also the first main title with moving sprites. Maybe this is nostalgia factor speaking, but aside from that exp. scaling, I didn't see much wrong with the game. I will admit that it's not the best, but it's not as terrible as you make it out to be.
Oh, why thank you, Migrant. Anyways, if it wasn't obvious, I absolutely love Gen 5 as a whole. The region was unique, being much more of an urban region as opposed to the rural locals from previous games, and I love the new Pokemon they added in. And, of course, the story was the best in the series until Sun and Moon, although I still think BW/B2W2's would come out on top if it had come out on the 3DS as Sun and Moon have. It's also got the best Pokemon, Zorua. Shoutout to Zorua fans.
Yeah it was neat technologically, and the story had the obvious makings of something great (which GF finally capitalized on in BW2). Shame it was so.... canned. Do gym, fight rival, fight Plasma, repeat.
But the overall battling side of the game was a hot mess. The elemental monkey was broken by covering up your only weakness (and honestly having started with Snivy I got a monkey that learned type advantages over half the gyms) and the early routes had nothing but junk. And yeah, the exp curve was silly. (Stupid banned words list forcing me to do tis in parts.)
Also, Migrant, you DO know EVERY Pokemon game can be beat by using 1 Pokemon that you get early on, right? I could go beat Pokemon Sun and Moon with a Gumshoos if I wanted to. A GUMSHOOS.
@N I don't think that was the point she was trying to make. But, Gen V was the best because it created the best Pokemon in the series, Trubbish!
I never really used the elemental monkey much, so I didn't have the same experience. Not all the 'mons were that great, but there are still some good ones that don't seem great at first. Like the pidove line, or the new Moxie users. I can give Game Freak props for including double wild battles, as well as the glorified exp piñata, Audino.
Was responding to when there was only 1 post. The other ones popped up before I posted.
I have to agree that BW's gameplay does tend to fall into a cycle, however almost every main series Pokemon game does. The only one that doesn't, in my opinion, is Pokemon Red Blue and Yellow, as the midgame is very open to whatever you want to do, and as you do things, more and more of the world opens up to you. On another note, the elemental monkey has a fatal flaw: evolving too early. If you either aren't aware of how Stone evolutions work or don't have a guide book, you can EASILY miss out of Scald/Flame Burst/Seed Bomb on one of the Pan trio, as their stone is given to you RIGHT at the correct time to possibly screw you over. This easily cripples them, almost making them unusable at that point unless trained to insane heights, as they already have pretty meager defenses, even for singleplayer. The only salvagable one at that point is Simipour, which can learn Scald or Surf soon before/after the Ground Gym.
I suppose I should amend that statement. If you either aren't aware of how Stone evolutions work or don't have a guide book back in the day when this game came out. Nowadays we have Bulbapedia and all that jazz.
All I hare to say is RIP the three hundred hours in white and White 2. 150 hours in each game. I only see it as fun as it was the first Pokémon game I was able to play so nostalgia bias kicks in.
My boi Simipour was strong man.
SuperBacon, I shall honor your memory.
