Site's roleplayier than...
A LARP convention.
Kinda wanna go to one someday tbh
A LARP convention. I still have no idea why that is. RPing's a bit boring for my tastes, nor does it seem serious enough for hardcore RPers to want to be a part of it. I really just don't know.
well, I wanted to make it serious at one point, tried implementing actual systems and rules and stuff, buuuuuuut I ended up getting ostracized for it so yeah. Still, I think there's some stuff that can be interesting here. Why not simply give it a try ?
I USE MY FIRE SPELL! *throws red ball* YOU'RE DEAD MATE! NO YOU MISSED ME. Rinse and repeat

Still, I think there's some stuff that can be interesting here. Why not simply give it a try ? Mostly I don't think I'd be very good at it. It would take a very specific topic to even get me interested, and then I'd just worry about my ability to do so. I like writing, but I'm a meticulous planner and re-editor. A one and done post that I can't alter, in real time among others is very contradictory to my overall style.
ah, you'd probably do better on discord or some other chat based thingie then. I can understand how you feel though. I thought so at first as well. It's also probably why I like being a GM more then a player.
Understandable. Some rp isn't for everyone, although the style of rp can vary depending on the GM. For example, Kazuya's threads are always very narrative and interesting, while other threads such as Leblanc threads tend to have short yet fast posts.
lmao "Ostracized" That's not how that happened. Thing is some people just don't want to do that, and given the group we have and how things go, it would be impossible to enforce things or keep track of them. And as I said people just don't want it. I'm not here for role playing something so game-like. I'm here to roleplay a narrative, sure we can have both but they don't blends as well as your think on a forum.
Also, what kind of topic would get you interested?
I don't even know what you're talking about with "GM".
shhhh, that's totes how it happened Hibiki
Game master. God in other words :3
Also, what kind of topic would get you interested? Probably not something here. I don't know myself and I doubt there would be too much that would, honestly. I prefer parody as my general writing style, so I think the closest I could ever come to doing it would be sarcastically on a forum where I know a great deal about something. And honestly, that's pretty much what you guys do here, but the topics don't particularly interest me, for whatever reason.
Some more plot-heavy threads tend to have a GM, or game master, that runs the thing. Their role varies from describing the setting to specifically tailoring encounters and battles. It's a bit hard to explain. Think of them as the narrator of sorts.
Any serious RPing, that turns into a great story I'd want to keep, I'd rather just make it into such than continue like that.
On one of my first forums, with a lot of friends when I was way younger, we all tried to do some cool battles and stuff with anime characters and whatever else, and I recall that being quite enjoyable, but at the same time: 1. We were all novices so it didn't matter 2. A lot of unwanted posters would join in to sabotage or throw in their stupid ideas to run the overall flow. Since I've always been my own writer, having disagreeable outside influences will completely ruin something for me.
GAME MASTER
You gotta roll with the punches sometimes
then how about I make something similar to that? Somehow I generally manage to keep most people away from my threads so I doubt it'd have any unwanted attention.
You gotta roll with the punches sometimes Perfectionist. Can't help it. then how about I make something similar to that? Somehow I generally manage to keep most people away from my threads so I doubt it'd have any unwanted attention. Don't cater. Just make what you want. If I think it's interesting, I'll click it on my own and/or join in.
Well right now, I'm mainly busy with my haunted house threads, since I kinda want to wrap that whole plot up. But I really would like to get some new blood to join in on my threads, I like diversity, and a change of pace is most welcome to give things a much needed renewal.
Ostracized? Not really Liam, while not for that at any rate. I take offense to the way you used to play absurdly strong characters and then complain about people being too OP... I will grant I haven't seen that lately, but it left a bad impression to me so there's that. I've never really felt welcome in your threads because of the way you used to harp on Tatsuya as well, and lately I just haven't done much RP frankly. Still it always made me think you'd rather not have me as a player. But I don't think anyone intended to ostracize you Liam, if anything I've just felt unwelcome when it comes to you. And as for enforcing rules... I take offense to the idea honestly, set skill lists and stats are limiting as hell. I'm not a great writer or anything but writing is what I try to do here, so having all those things? It just sounds like I'd be locking myself into a gameish style, I've complained about people trying to be just like the game for a while, so it shouldn't shock you I'm not a fan of the idea. If I wanted to play DnD I could just go do that ya know? To me this is meant to be less formal and not as defined. So yeah like Hibiki said, not everyone wants rules.

Do you know anything about Shakugan No Shana or Redlettermedia? I feel like those would be the only things I'd care to write about.
Extremely detail heavy or outright sarcastically non-serious. I tend to ride the line between both of those.
I consider myself an RPer and if you want to know the reason why I do it is cause its just allot of fun to write about having a character that's unique, that expresses themselves, then to have conflicts with other unique interesting characters, to write big fights or little philosophical duels, to develop a character from being timid and afraid to brave and courageous, to show off goofy quirks or antics. I can understand RP ain't for everyone though and that's just a preference thing, can't change it.
Well they may have veen powerfull, but i never rp mutch do I? I also always tried to give them drawbacks for veing powerfull. As for being unwelcomming, that had never been my intention, quite the oposite. I want to see as many people as possible join my games. I apologize for giving false impressions..
Personally, I view RPing as a way to write a story cooperatively, the trolls make it a more interesting challenge than just writing alone. Plus it keeps more of a sense of surprise that I think is valuable.

Not necessarily, even in the worst of conditions you can still take it as a challenge, writing something good even if you're working with something bad. That's how I started out, took it as a writing exercised and moved on from there.
