Serene Dream (2)
OOC: this is the second-to-last part of my little series that’s just Shadowverse, and the last that will be 100% open. That is to say, you can join in with anyone at any time. However, this time there is one requirement to join. Simply come onto PMs and PM this account with your character’s innermost desires, what they want the world to be more than anything. Whatever it is, whether it be having a loved one back, surpassing their rivals, or even just fighting. For those who participated in the previous thread and have already completed their dream, there are some side quests I’ve made available, some narrated purely by me, and you have the option of helping out other players here. Though I won’t continue on the actual plot until next weekend when I can confirm the most people on.

Now then IC: *boom wakes up walking through a city alleyway, his pet cat a short ways ahead of him. They just returned from the park where Boom had to chase off a few dogs. The cat looks back at Boom, swishing it’s tail as though waiting for something*

*Kitty yawns and stretches before walking over to Boom and rubbing against his leg, purring the whole time*

*upon further inspection Boom is able to see a few nearby alleyways, towards the near end of one such alleyway a raccoon is digging through the trash. It briefly looks up before continuing its rummage, unlikely to bother anyone. Kitty meows at Boom before running off into one of the nearby alleyways, tail whisking playfully*

*Boom followed Kitty. Boom wonders why Kitty is so playful*

*Kitty rounds the alley corner a few seconds before Boom, and he can hear a short exchange* V1: What The? V2: dumb animal *Boom hears Kitty yowl and rounds the corner to find two thugs looking at his cat, who is lying against the opposite wall. Neither of the punks have noticed him yet* V1: Shouldn’t dumb cats know their place? V2: oh don’t worry, we’ll teach em. *the second punk pulls out a switchblade*

*Boom eyes went cold as he took out his knife and threw at the second punk's head*

*As neither punk has seen him yet, the knife goes straight into the side of the thug’s head, he seems to vanish as the other punk looks over to where his companion was* P1: The Hell? Rick? That guy must be crazy. *seeing as his friend was just killed, the thug decides its best to flee the scene, leaving Kitty against the opposite wall, roughed up, but largely unharmed*

*Ruka wakes up in the middle of the city* Ergh... where am I?

*Boom grab the knife off of the ground and threw it at the other thug's head*

*Passes by,noticing Boom fighting the thugs*

*Ruka Wales up in the city park, hand in hand with a young, blonde-haired boy she feels as though she should know. The man laughs as Ruka awakens* B: you can fall asleep anywhere, can’t you Ruka? Just like you. *in Boom’s dream his knife hits its mark yet again, causing the other thug to vanish and leaving him alone in the alleyway with Kitty*

*Boom picks up kitty and puts him/her on my head before going to grab the knife... it was weird that both of the thugs vanish*

*Kitty seems relieved to be so near to Boom again, Kitty lays atop Boom’s head and begins purring, slowly drifting to sleep as Boom collects his knife* *Ruka’s boyfriend laughs and looks out across the park he pretends to stretch in order to put one arm around Ruka as he watches a few birds fly by* B: no need to make excuses, it’s one of the things I love about you after all. It was a little cute really

*Boom walks out of the alleyway, towards home. Kitty seems to be happy sleeping atop his head as Boom walks through the uneventful city streets.* *Ruka’s boyfriend laughs and holds her closer* B: oh now you’re just trying to make me say it. I know how you are, been together for months after all.

And yet it feels like an eternity *She leans her head on his shoulders*

*Boom keeps walking home*

*Ruka can feel her boyfriend breathing as they remain close on the park bench* B: An eternity? Surely I’m not that boring? *his tone makes it obvious that he’s merely speaking in jest, though strangely, the sky seems to be growing darker* *After a long walk and the divebombing pigeon incident Boom is able to find his way home, Kitty with a few less clumps of fur and overall less satisfied with their adventure meows as though wanting food*

*In Ruka’s Park the clouds seem to roll in quickly. Her boyfriend breaks off the embrace upon hearing the crack of thunder* B: stupid rain.... I knew we should have come out earlier. *Her boyfriend looks over towards the park’s forest and grins* B: I bet we can get shelter over there, what do you say? *Kitty seems very pleased as they begin eating their favorite food. Boom watches Kitty for a while until he hears a knock at the door*

*Ruka’s boyfriend teases them as they walk into the trees. The trees seem to be getting thicker and thicker as he leads her through* B: come on, hurry up. We’ll want to be in thick cover before the rain hits. *When Boom walks over to the door he can overheat a conversation on the other side* V1: you sure this is where that knife-flinger lives? V2: of course I am, his cat is very distinct you know. I could tell it apart from anywhere

*Boom soon takes out a pistol with a silencer and kicked the door open hoping to knock them down*

*The door slams open, knocking one of the voices unconscious, you can’t see him from behind the open door, but his friend is looking on in shock before hastily drawing his own pistol* *Ruka’s boyfriend slows down a bit to allow Ruka to catch her breath before pointing to a particularly thick cluster of trees in the distance* B: I figured that place would be good enough, though animals seem to avoid it for some reason. You’re not scared are you?

OOC: it’s fine, I know you mean Boom IC: *Ruka’s boyfriend slows down to a walk as they enter the cluster of trees. The grass seems almost sickly from lack of sunlight while the trees look... Ominous. Ruka seems to few a faint pulsing coming from the direction they’re headed. Ruka’s boyfriend looks at her in concern* B: you sure you’ll be alright? We can turn back if you need to. *as for Boom, he shoots the first thug about as soon as he is able to get the pistol out of its holster, then steps around the doorway to see the second thug from the alleyway and shoot him as well. When Boom looks away both of their bodies are gone*

*Ruka’s boyfriend nods understandingly and looks around* B: probably a good idea. But.... Uhhhh.... Whivh way is back again. *looking around the forest doesn’t seem familiar, there are no well-work paths for Ruka to use to find an easy way out* *meanwhile, almost as though it were commanded by his thoughts Boom’s home phone rings.*

*Ruka’s boyfriend laughs and steps out of her way* B: forgot you could do that for a moment. Very well, you lead the way. *Ruka cuts through the bushes and leaves as they wander the forest, the pulsing fades and Ruka soon finds herself in a clearing with only one, large tree in the center* *Boom picks up the phone to find the exhausted voice of his father* F: Look, I know we haven’t talked in a while, but have you been staying out of trouble like I asked?

Woah! That clearing looks pretty! But isn't that forest a bit large? It seems smaller on the outside...

The only danger is people messing with me... *Boom knew this was a dream since his father was dead how Boom knew well he was the one who killed him*

*Ruka’s boyfriend steps closer to the large tree in the clearing before turning back to answer* B: we only got to see the edge of the forest, remember? It extends out quite a ways. *Boom’s father sighs and there is a rustling on the other side of the phone* F: I know, I know, you’ve always been able to defend yourself. And that cat of yours too. I only call because I got some reports of a man who looked quite a bit like you killing two of my enforcers. Is this true?

That tree is a bit suspicious, *Ruka climbs it up a bit* What do we have here?

*Ruka’s boyfriend laughs from the bottom of the tree* B: Well, I’ll admit, I don’t reme- *at that moment, Ruka reaches the second layer of its branches and the ground seems to shake. An eerie pulsing comes from the tree as the bark near the middle splits to reveal a blood-red orb. The tree begins to move, branches swaying and connecting to form two massive arms as the figure looms over them. Ruka’s boyfriend begins to step away from the thing* *Boom attempts to leave a dream, only to find himself unable to do so. He hears a kind, motherly voice from behind him* V: Another dreamer has figured it out it seems. Tell me child, why is it you reject serenity? This is all you could have wanted.

Woah there! *Ruka jumps down to her boyfriend and gets into her offensive standing* What is THAT!?

*Ruka’s boyfriend backs further away from the “tree” as the bark closes around the creature’s red core and a fainter light can be seen from the treetops* B: I.... I don’t know. I most certainly didn’t make it. Y.. You can fight, right? *The motherly voice chuckles before speaking to Boom* V: You wanted to protect your pet cat and you did, saved them from those terrible people. You wanted to hear your father’s voice and you did. Go ahead, check on Kitty. You’ll find them to be perfectly safe. All thanks to you.

*Ruka finds that her keyblade is unable to pierce the being’s Armor-like bark, rendering her attacks ineffective. The being swings it’s massive arm vertically at Ruka, it’s somewhat slow so she could easily dodge it.* *Behind Boom the voice sounds somewhat concerned as it continues* V: no need to look for me, just turn around, I’m here at your desire. But if you trulywish to return to sorrow, then you must go through me, the keeper of the dream.

OOC: it’s not actually a dream, more of an illusion thing, but honestly the last fight’s more of a formality than anything else at this point, so we’ll go with it.

*The being’s bark catches fire for a moment before being sniffed out as the creature’s bark opens up to reveal its blood-red core. The core begins absorbing energy from the nearby area, wilting the nearby grass as it seems to be charging something*

Huh? The orb is showing! Is this it's weakness? *Ruka tries to hit it with physical and magic attacks*

*Ruka, having read TVtropes enough to know that large, red, pulsating point in a normally invulnerable enemy is obviously it’s weakspot gives the creature a flurry of blows while it attempts to charge, finishing it by running the creature through, it gives out one anguished bellow before it begins to fade away, bringing life back to the nearby area. Ruka’s Boyfriend watches on, impressed* B: Niw that’s my girlfriend. Show that monster who’s boss!!!!
