Site status, moderation, and RP
Hey guys, it's about that time again. Right now, we are tossing some ideas around, and the primary focus that we have, above all else, is to improve the Phansite to be bigger, better, and more appealing to everyone that we can. Especially since Persona 5 seems to be getting ready to make it's second round with it's spin off content, so we'll be trying to make this place even more appealing to the inevitable inflow of new people. There's been a few things that's been of concern to us, and we wanted to get things addressed and out in the open for you guys. First up, it's about the RP. Most of you know, I love RP. I was one of the people really pushing to get the RP community up and running. Hell, even my own account started out as just a pure Joker RP account. However, there has been some issues cropping up, and we are planning a few things that may or may not help in the long run. There is no set date for these plans, so don't hold your breath, or you'll choke.
But basically, the overall quality of posts have been degraded to one world no thought liners, animal RPers that are just animal sounds, and nothing but OOC posts. Originally, this was not a huge issue, as the select few RP's would pop up, and either we would moderate is as people were doing severe non-persona related RP's, or we would flat out just delete the topics as we found them. (Mind you, we are still people with lives, so we can't see everything). However, it's gotten to the point where it's pretty much infested nearly every RP topic. So no, this update is not about one person in particular, but the RP community in a whole. I think you guys are great, and I absolutely adore the idea of having the chance to cultivate your imagination, but I need you guys to step up your game on this. I'd hate to have to start stepping in on topics that devolve into basically spam. That hurts you mentally, it's a waste of moderator times, it's a waste of the RP'ers time, and it overall hurts the site. No one (sane) wants to hurt the site.
While it may feel like I'm picking on the RP community, I'm really not. The post quality stems over to non-RP posts as well. A lot of people are not trying very hard when posting in general, and I feel that is negatively effecting quality posting everywhere. So remember guys, when you post, think about this: “Is this wasting other people's time? Is this contributing to the topic? Am I creating an opening for thought or discussion? Would the Mods consider this spam?” Think before you hit post. I'd love to see posting quality go up *everywhere* That aside, as you noticed, we are constantly trying to improve other areas of the place. Activity in general seems to have slowed down, so I'd love to ask you guys to try and pull back a LOT of activity away from other areas, like the PM chatrooms, and try and do it on the forums. I see a lot of conversations in the chatroom that would make excellent topics in the chats, and I'd love to seem more of that in the forums. If you have a topic you want to discuss, don't just talk in the chat, but feel free to make a topic on the forum and see what that goes.
Note: I did NOT tell you to stop using the chat. Quite the opposite: Keep doing what you're doing, just keep the forums in mind, and if you think it'll be a fun topic, throw it on the forum AS WELL as the chat rooms. Lets grow the site! Next on our list to knock out: Moderation. As you can tell, I personally haven't been exactly active, and there has been a slow down on the staff side as well. Mostly, it's just personal stuff going on, but that doesn't mean you get a free ride. We are still people, and we are volunteers, so if you have questions about why someone was moderated, if you do not agree with what was said or done, we have a new place for you:
Ask the Mods! 1055a016-82d1-c642-afae-3f68ba25f631 This no longer exists ~ Mishima Join this custom room to contact the mods directly. It'll be a special room that is designed for you, the posters, to contact us without fear of retribution. If you think the mods did you wrong, offended you, if you have a question about a ban, or if you have a suggestion for the site, or a way for us to do our job better, let us know there. As long as you are going in there with a genuine comment, and not trying to troll the room, then have no fear, as it'll be considered a safe zone for you guys. Remember, we have lives, so feel free to ask a question in there, and the Mod in question will come in and answer when they have time. Just remember to keep it meme free. It's still a serious chatroom, and while we all love having fun, we'd hate to miss a question because someone wanted to memelord it. Finally: With all these tools, and different ways of communication (Contact Us, Discord, Email, PM's) the biggest thing you guys need to remember: If you have a question, please do NOT make a new topic asking it. This generally causes at least 6 similar topics at a minimum of people asking the exact same question. Please refer to pretty much any other method if you have a question, and we'll gladly answer. You just have to use the methods.

Long story short, put some more thought into posts, its something some community members have been complaining about (TogoSystem's the newest one, phrasing might be questionable, but as Joker pointed out, there's a point) For the Rpers who DO put more into their posts, you know who you are, some people might be a little frustrated with how slow you type, its also important for you to post more, perhaps the timing could have been better, since there are a few of the better RP topics going on right now, but I'm most certainly no judge of that.
Gamma put it well. The way I and the other mods see it, a thread entirely comprised of one-word replies is borderline spam.
As an animal rper, this is racist against animal rpers. I kid. I at least try to put effort into my actions. Anyway, one-liners or one-word posts are not only potential spam, but they give others little to go off on. No matter the skill level, I'm sure anyone can crank out at least two sentences in their sleep. So I have little objection.
Gamma put it well. The way I and the other mods see it, a thread entirely comprised of one-word replies is borderline spam. I'm a master of what they call "trial and error wordplay". I fuck up speaking enough that eventually I say something right
I type as best I can. It's the revising and editing bit that slows me down. Also trying to make my character be as accurate to their personality as well as trying to figure out what they would do.
taking a while to post is fine, its really not the issue in-play here. I mean, of course if you can make a gr8 post and do it quickly too that's even better, but quality, then speed, not the other way around
Other then that, I guess I just don't rp that much on this site. Even though I spend most of my time on it because I don't study for shit.
It's impractical to demand mastery of worldplay. I'm just asking for an effort. You can always tell when someone tries, and that is what's appreciated most.
I always do my best. I just have issues trying to use dialogue tags as well. Mostly because I mostly only know said, ask, and exclaim.

Good ideas. I myself have been desperate to bring actual discussion and conversation to make this like a real forum.

Sounds good to me
I know I've been busy working on a larger scale RP on discord. As Yuki, Aigis, PK, Tatsu, and Cal can attest to. Honestly when I saw the site rediscover Persona recently I considered moving it over here. But... I'm concerned of the community. This RP by its nature requires characters new to shadows and Personas... Which 90% of characters on the site aren't....
Considering most people have like a million bloody alts, I seriously doubt that would be a problem, Migrant.
Alts? What are those?
look at Akira's thread, all you have to do is state the requirements and most people are willing to go along, really not that hard. Of course, that makes it outside the one-universe thing you're fond of, but even in that case several wouldn't mind making a character for it
Mmm, I gave up on the one-universe thing around the time that there being one universe compelled me to try saving the Nexus from people who refused to lose. Though I will say Discord does have one large perk over the site. You can't really have a whole town and school and everything here on the site. Even Akira's thread is basically just the actual phantom thievery it looks like. (Also blame work for the late reply)

Late reply is fine, not like I'm too busy myself. Also bump for the morning peeps who don't really wanna scroll down.
Why not lock this post up at the top so it gets more visibility?
Good idea
I made that suggestion at the start. Yes. Pin it.
I like these rules. I just hope it's not too strictly or harshly enforced. It can be hard to distinguish the purpose of a thread at times IMO.
If I had more time, I'd join the site more. I want to return to RP here... eventually.
If I had more time, I'd join the site more. I want to return to RP here... eventually. But why though?
This website has improved immensely since I joined all those months ago -- but only in terms of design and function. I honestly don't drop by here so often anymore, not because my love for Persona 5 has waned but because the quality of the posts has diminished. I'm pleased to see that something is now being done about this. Hopefully now the phansite will continue to flourish instead of devolving into a meme centre.
