What Fire Emblem characters suprised you?
To continue with my Fire Emblem questions, which fire emblem characters surprised you? By this I mean characters that you didn't think you would like and/ or use but there personalities or stat growths made you like and/or use them. Examples for me include: Vaike (Not as a warrior, but as a berserker. The Vaike wrecks house.) Charlotte (Surprisingly good character, stats and personality wise.) Rhys ( I was going to use Mist over him, but he quickly proved himself to me, capping magic and res, so I use them both now. And Rhys and Mia's support conversations are great) Rolf (Was going to use Shinon and Astrid, but this kid is killing everything, so much so I dropped Astrid. Might use him and Shinon now or just use Rolf. And, again, Mist and Rolf have a great support conversation.)
My friend and I played a bit of Conquest once while I was over at their house. Some things we found out: -Arthur is surprisingly strong. And he also worked very well when paired up with the MC. Plus, he's complete JUSTICE! You gotta love the guy. -On the flip side, Odin's offensive capabilities were disappointing. He has a good personality though, so that redeems him somewhat. -Felicia's not only useful due to debuff daggers, but also can use staves. Which is very useful when you don't have a healer yet. We ended up shipping her with the MC... which eventually caused me to say "Don't kill the waifu's sister."
Shiro from Fates. I barely used him (let alone in his base class) in Birthright because everyone else was already so well trained. But in Conquest, not only did I keep him in that base class, but he proved invaluable (especially when paired with another class user Niles) in many missions. Azama, Lissa, and Mariabelle all fall under the same story. Very difficult to use at first because they have no attacks, but worth it in the end. Awakening was my very first FE ever, so I don't think I used the latter two once because I didn't know how to keep them from dying. Subsequent playthroughs remedied that however. I wanted to use Azama too, since he was so ungodly amusing.

His accuracy drop skill led me to drop him early in Conquest for Benny. That game is hard enough luck wise as it is without hampering it more for yourself.
Tobin from Echeos. He kinda became my Takumi for that game. Crited almost everything. Similar with Kliff, he wrecked a lot. I think also Odin was dissapointing, Owain helped me so well in Awakening, but Odin. And I didn't like to use Arthur, Rinkah, or Charlotte.

That's the thing with healers. Hard to keep alive at the beginning, but extremely helpful and really powerful upon promotion, I find. As I mentioned before with Rhys capping his magic in Path of Radiance. On promotion to a level 1 bishop, he naturally did 30 damage with the weakest tome he could use, going from a unit that did nothing but heal to a unit that could one shot armour knights and low resistance units. Also, Odin is pretty bad. He's better as a samurai, but still pretty bad.
Why the Odin hate? He has exceptional dodge when attacking and a moderate crit rate when you customize his weapons. As a Lodestar (I used my seal from Before Awakening in Conquest on him) he's even more useful. He's fragile (but not even as fragile as Niles), but only if you can hit him and he crits 50% of the time, and with Dual Guardsman, he makes an excellent partner for someone too. I rarely didn't use him. Edit: and Vantage. Changing him out from a magic user right off to a Swordsmaster is necessary.

It depends on how you use him, similar to Donnel. Reclass him into a certain unit and he destroys things. Don't and he sucks. Most people don't reclass Odin into a lodestar, so most people determine that he sucks.
Lodestar just adds more slightly helpful skills. To me, he was just as good as a Swordsmaster.

All in all, Odin isn't a terrible unit. (Breaking out the growth rates here) He has high growths in luck and skill, which is where the high dodge and critical rates comes from. His strength and speed, some of the cornerstone stats of the swordmaster, and his magic ,if you prefer him as a sorcerer, are, however, fairly low and his defences and health are lacklustre in comparison to other mages, like Leo, or other swordsman, like Laslow. As I said, he isn't terrible, but other units will out perform him, which is why he is often benched by players of Conquest and ,especially, Revelations.

Laurent. Althought I guess it DOES make sense considering he was my son.
Vaike and Kaden surprised me with how good they were, vaike barely took any damage, and when he did he'd just use sol to get the hp back and kaden was a fast powerhouse that always got 2 hits per turn
Keaton was also a treat. He was as tough as a knight, but he has way more movement and speed, making him great. Velouria is even better.
