A good example I saw was this: If the earth disappeared, then math would disappear with it. It would be the same with stuff like tennis and chess.

If the earth and all people were to disappear, then mathematics as a class would disappear. However, mathematics as a concept would not. Assuming the rest of the universe still exists, there would still be eight planets orbiting one sun (fuck You scientists Pluto is a planet). Math has a strict set of rules which cannot be changed or bent, that's why I think they were discovered rather than invented. Sure, things like our numeral systems would be lost, but these are replaceable and they don't change how math works in any way.

Mathematics was invented, though it can be used to describe many phenomena very well, it does not perfectly describe them meaning it does not define the universe but it is our best way to understand reality.

The statement of being able to apply Mathematics anywhere is not really true. You cannot calculate your thoughts or ones psychic nor can you calculate ones emotion. And to the question if Mathematic is an invention or a discovery, it truly is a discovery. The ways of using Maths, stuff like algebra and geometry or trigonometry are an invention of the human.
