Super Monkey Ball Forever Review
So last week Super Monkey Ball Forever was released. My opinions are sort of mixed on it. I like how the story brings in all the monkeys into one game to fight together against an evil force, but the story was pretty meh and generic. The gameplay is your Standard Super Monkey Ball gameplay. The mechanics are the same with small differences in making a party. One thing that truly excels in this game is the music. It brings back some past hits in previous entries like "Roll on Forever Little Monkey" one of the saddest themes for one of the most tragic characters. Im glad that theme was beought back with this character, for spoiler reasons I will not say, that was dead before. Back to the plot, there worlds were collided into Super Ball world, by the Evil Dark Monkey Apetellio. It really seems like a fan service game with having popular characters come back and having the lesser characters do little things, but then again it IS a Super Monkey Ball game. This isn't new. The battles are fun, bosses are cool, newer designs are nice, and the world is fun to explore. Also the dungeons can range from really cool to somewhat dull. If you like the Super Monkey Ball series, I'm sure you would like this just to have your favorite characters in one place. If you haven't played a Super Monkey Ball game, go and play Super Monkey Ball VII. Its pretty good and I've given a review for it before. Other then that, Super Monkey Ball Forever gets a 8/10 from me. It was a nice 25th anniversary game.
I do have to say, I really enjoy these fanservice type games. I really like seeing past beloved character interacting and working with one another even if they aren't usually supposed to in canon since every game takes place in a entirely seprate world. Although I am a little upset with some of the characters who didn't make it in the game such as the main character's party from the original Monkey Ball. I understand that it came out before the title of Super was added onto the name but I still think it's important that it holds a staple place within the series for continuity sake. The original Monkey Ball may not have had the best writing or characters but it's still important not to forget your routes and the fact that the main character themselves is only a secret party member is pretty dissapointing to me.
Ah yes, the OG. I agree that it should have been added in, like you said, it was basically the start to the whole series and it is sad to see it pushed off to the side especially during its anniversary. Maybe it could become more in DLC thing in the future rather than just having the secret Mc party member? I wish it wouldn't come down to that but who knows. I have heard some rumors of a possible remake to the game, but you know rumors, they may not be the truth. Anyway, it was nice to see the characters interact with eachother, even funny in some ways. I do hope they do another similar thing in the future. It is nice to have some just random good fun content compared to how serious the main series of Super Monkey Ball can get sometimes. So having this fun little take on the series and mashing it together was a joy
