A Sketchy Store
In the middle of nowhere, within a broken down neighborhood, one building still stood in a relatively good condition. It was a small building with no windows and thick concrete walls that almost seemed to reflect the light of the sun like metal. There was a single door at the front of the building with no other entrances or exits. The door itself seemed to be made of an odd plastic that resembled wood in color and texture. It was an oddly decorated door within intricate patterns that almost seemed like tunes of some kind. If someone attempted to open the door they would find it unlocked, however, those with too much malice in their intent would find the door to not only be locked but merely touching it would burn their skin. The inside of the strange building was a room only about half the size of the building itself with a small speaker and hatch on the wall that would split the building in half. Next to the speaker would be a button with a sign that simply read “Push to Talk”. The hatch itself next to the speaker and button would only be big enough to look inside and put one’s hand inside.
Star walks in, reads the sign, and pushes the button. Hello?
The speaker would be full of static for a moment as if undergoing an adjustment of sorts. After about a minute of static a voice would begin speaking. The voice would almost sounds completely neutral with no clear indications towards any traits the individual it belonged to might have. “You’ve entered the domain of the trade. What is it you seek and what is it you’re willing to spend? We only deal with things that are of a more elusive nature when it comes to giving and only ask for a payment that is equal in the eyes of the receiving.”
Hmm...well, I'm looking for treasure maps at the moment. I've got a lot of treasure that I can part with. Oh, and do you happen to have any rare gems?
The voice would go silent for a moment as if assessing something. After seeming to process something it would reply. “A map is easy to produce but in order to buy a journey you must give up a previous destination or goal. As for a rare gem, that depends on your definition of rare. We can trade a cure for a blessing or a blessing for a curse. To receive something rare you must give up something common to yourself.”
...hmm...in that case, I think I'll give up destination 97. That lava planet was fun to swim in. As for the gems, I'd rather not give up a common part of myself. Would that work?
Soon enough, Eito comes across the store, pushing up his glasses as he enters and looks at the sign, ignoring Star. "Hmmmm, well, this ought to be interesting, if nothing else..." He approaches and stares at the button, hearing the voice talking to the goddess in the meantime. He stays silent.
The voice would seem to once again process something. They’d spend a good few minutes as static seemed to break in and out over on the other side from time to time. “Alright, the set up is complete. All you have to do is drop the destination into the hatch and you will receive a new journey.” Star would soon find that in her hand a small jar would appear. Within the jar would be a tiny model of the planet she had described. The hatch would slowly begin to open.
Okay then. Star tosses the jar into the hatch. These kinds of shops are usually weird, but getting rid of old memories to make new ones is natural. I wonder why they have to be so creepy and mysterious most of the time though.
After the hatch closes, rustling could be heard within before it once again would open with a map inside. The map would have a detailed description of how to travel to the center of an exotic jungle planet covered in giant worm-like monsters. “One journey, but the destination from before is now in our possession. I hope you are satisfied with this trade.”
Eito walks up to the button and presses it calmly, one eyebrow raised. "Anyone there?" His eyes shift colors a couple times, seemingly at random as he waits.
I am indeed satisfied with this. Star walks out, heading back home to prepare for a trip.
The Benefactor quietly walks in with a smirk, standing in the back, he simply observes for a bit. He is more interested in seeing what the other guests are here for, than investigating anything himself, though the origin of this place does seem... entertaining.
The speaker would once again give off static for a few moments as Eito asks for assistance. Once again the voice would speak but it sounded different from before. There were still no defining traits to it but it definatley was a different voice. “Welcome to the domain of trades. What are you willing to trade and what do you wish to receive? We deal with anything you can offer as your own and give anything you believe you can afford.”
"What do I want to receive?" Eito stops to think for a moment, before his eyes light up. Literally. "What about a monster?" He reaches into his pocket and throws a capsule to the ground, then proceeds to grab a bottle of water from his jacket. He pours the whole thing onto the capsule, which slowly starts growing into a 10-foot humanoid monstrosity, grey hide bulging with muscles as it's huge maw bites idly. It tests it's huge right arm and smaller two left arms before growling and standing next to Eito, who looks up at it. "Sorry buddy." He then goes back to focusing on the voice, a skeptical look on his face. "What can I get for this?"
The voice would go silent before from the wall a eye seems to form. It would open and look over what Eito has to offer with a strange violet pupil. Finally, the eye would close before dissapearing back into the wall. “A semi-sentient being with a large amount of power. You’d get something fully sentient with lesser power, a being of equal sentience with equal power but a different form, or a being with no sentience but further power. This is an exchange that needs a direction. A desire is required for the desired outcome.”
As the eye emerges, Eito's change to match it's color as he stares. "Weird." Regardless, he listens to the voice and thinks once more before stopping. "So when you say full or no sentience, what is it comparable to? I kinda need to know the law of equal exchange here."
As opposed to usual the voice would reply right away as if the answer was obvious to it. “Full sentience is full free will and a full ability to think. It is comparable to humans but humans posses an oddly powerful will as well. Wether the being has such a powerful will is not something I can decide but it will be a free will. Something with no sentience is comparable to a machine. It won’t be able to question what it is told and will be unable to think beyond simple logic. A semi-amount of will is autonomous in some ways. It can act and think on its own but will not act freely. I’m unsure if there is a comparable human value, perhaps it could be called akin to a slave.”
"Oh good, just wanted to make sure..." He looks up at the abomination standing idly next to him, before nodding. "Gimme something with full sentience, please! Sometimes it just gets dull not being able to talk to Fluffy."
More static could be heard on the other end before finally Fluffy would begin shrinking in size until it was no bigger than a piece of candy. It would also now be trapped in a small jar. “Very well, insert your part of the trade into the hatch and you shall receive what you desire.”
It was a pretty rough part of town to be sure, which in some ways made it perfect to get away for a moment. A lot of the people here have it kinda bad, guess there's not too much to be done there. More importantly is the one building that stands out as not so worn out and old. With a total lack of windows and only a single door, it almost looks like some kinda secret lair. So, the girl steps up to the door and slowly opens it, to find a few people already inside Uh... Is this a bad time?
Eito stares at the jar in interest, moving it up and down to feel it's weight before nodding and walking over to the hatch, inserting the jar and the miniature abomination inside. "Welp, was nice knowing you." He's about to say more before Sayaka enters and speaks. His eyes instantly turn black as he turns to look at her. "Not really." And with that, he shrugs and goes back to looking at the hatch.
The jar would be surprisingly light as if it only contained air. As it was put in the hatch and closed within the hatch would begin to vibrate gently. Finally there was a clunk as if something had been dropped in. If Eito opened and looked inside the hatch he would find a new jar in the place of Fluffy’s. It contained an odd entity within, humanoid in nature with skin that had a red tint to it and horns growing out of its head. The entity wore a black tunic of sorts and had small reptilian wings growing out of its back. It would be unconscious within the jar as if in some sort of state of frozen time. “A little reminder but all trades are final until they’re not. I hope you’re satisfied with your trade.”
Well, if its nothing bad Sayaka takes a few steps around Eito, looking at the little hatch in the wall, one eyebrow raised Care to tell me what's goin' on here? This kinda looks like one of the places you go to to get mugged or something
"Seems...Interesting." Eito reaches in to grab the jar, pulling it close to examine the figure in more detail before trying to open the lid. "Gotta say, I didn't expect this!" He seems relatively enthusiastic about this, his eyes changing to a soft green, glowing faintly before they stop as he turns to Sayaka. "You ask for something, stuff something you have that is of equal value and boom!" He motions to the jar he holds excitedly.
As Eito opens the jar it would begin cracking before breaking completely. The shards of glass would spread around but vanish before making contact with anything. The entity within would immediately begin growing in size until they reached around the same size as Eito. They would stand for a moment before seeming to go faint and beginning to fall as if heavily dazed and confused.
Eito rushes to the entity, grabbing it by the back and one shoulder to stabilise it. "Woah, woah, relax for a moment! Can't have you fainting on me already!" He continues holding the entity for a moment, observing it in more detail now that it's bigger.
Sayaka jumps as the glass shatters, reaching out only to find the shards practically melting before they can even reach her. For now, she stands off to the side a little, watching Eito with his... Trade while thinking of something herself
*Mara happened to wandered by the build and was peeped with curiosity since the damn think sticks out compared to everything else but curiosity hasn’t killed so far and overtook her as she without haste entered the building. To her delight the oddness of it all was to her liking.* “Huh what’s a more quality piece of architect like this in a run down area bet this place barley gets vis-“ *She sees the piece of glass that instead of shattering to the ground vanish at will and it somewhat snapped her back to reality, blinking a few times she looked to see Sayaka and Eito carrying something or someone and realized there are other here catching her off guard.* “Well uh...Sorry am I interrupting right here by chance?” *She tries to look somewhere else feeling a littlest stupid for just stumbling in randomly how typical of her.*
The being would be stabilized before slowly opening their eyes. They'd look around unsure of where they were or what was going on, yet despite this, they seemed to act oddly calm. Strange Entity: "W-what? Where is this? I-I don't understand..." They would continue looking around before noticing Eito as they helped them stand. Strange Entity: "W-who are you? S-should I know you? I'm sorry, I'm unsure..."
Eito steps back a foot or two under the barrage of nervous questions, before composing himself and answering. "Well, before anything else, take a breather." He continues whether the entity does that or not. "So, my name is Eito Arai. You don't know me and I don't really know you, but here we are. Essentially, I traded in a crazy abomination I had to get someone a bit smarter, if not stronger." While he's talking on and on, motioning to things all around, he thinks about how he had specifically asked for a monster and got this entity. Being called a monster's pretty damn rude, in his humble opinion, but while considering the actual morality of this situation, he continues speaking. "So...Nice to meet you?"
Sayaka jumps back suddenly, almost backing into Mara in the meantime, when the other girl pipes up, Sayaka rapidly turns around, waving her arms No no its fine. I'm pretty sure. Just some kinda magic shop that's trading demons or something. N... Not that there's anything wrong with that, hehe The girl laughs faintly in some sort of attempt to cover her awkwardness in the situation, before taking a deep breath herself A.... Anyways, yeah, its nothing too big, I guess. Kinda looks like one of those places you'd expect to find a drug deal.... Which it might be? I dunno how any of this works Eager for the excuse to get away a little, Sayaka takes a few steps around the nervous new thing to hit the button Care to tell us what exactly's going on?
The entity would stare back at Eito with blood red eyes. Strange Entity: "I really don't understand what's going on but I don't feel I have a choice but to trust you. I... can't seem to recall anything besides a stiffness of sorts. My body feels sore all over...Have I been asleep?" Upon the button being hit again there would be more static as the intercom begins to connect. Shortly after yet another voice would begin speaking. It would be neutral like the other but this one could almost be called more feminine than the others. "This is the domain of trade. We deal in all things here as long as you can provide something of equal value. The prices are simple and fair, only growing more complex as the demand becomes more complex. This is a business, after all, we always try to maintain fair prices if not better for our customers. That is all I can say for now though unless you wish to ask for specific information. We deal in that as well."
Mara pipes up a little in panic with all this info given to her but it makes relalitive sense so far somehow. “Oh that explains it not sure why I even acted up....yeah.” Mara chuckles to herself nervously but she feels that only made things more awkward so she decide to just stand where shs is and obverse Sayaka push the button best to stop talking and start learning in this moment.
No choice but to trust him? This spontaneous decision has suddenly gotten pretty uncomfortable. Eito sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "You've been in a deep sleep...Of sorts. I can only theorize some sort of magic was involved in placing you into stasis for a long time. Doesn't sound like a very good thing to me." He shrugs once more and places a hand up to his chin, as if in thought. "Well, regardless of what happened, you're here now, I suppose. You got a name?"
ANYthing huh? Sayaka taps her finger on her chin for a moment, thinking. Its probably some kind of exaggeration, but what's the best way to prove that. Preferably something she'd actually want too. They had a whole... Living thing earlier, so the easy thing to do is choose something of a totally different type Can you give me the ability to see through this back wall?
The entity was somewhat confused by Eito's words and would express it as much. "This sounds complicated, but that almost makes me want to know more... A name? I felt like I did at one point but... I don't remember it. It hurts to even try to remember what my name was." The speaker would go silent for a moment before answering Sayaka's question. "Yes, the price for that would be to offer your ability to see something else. I would grant that request for the price, however, are you sure you'd be prepared to see what lies beyond? It may surprise and horrify you to know."
This is officially reaching new levels of awkwardness. Scratching his head, Eito looks to the side, his eyes shifting through colors for a moment before settling on red. "I'm starting to think something really damn weird is going on. And i'm not a fan of this particular kind of weirdness." Sighing once again, he moves over to the button and waits for Sayaka to finish asking before interrupting and pressing the button. "Hold that conversation for a moment. What the hell is going on right now? What's up with..." He stops to try and think of a word to describe the entity, but eventually just stops and motions to it. OOC: Ugh, it's so damn late. I might need to go suddenly.
Mara continued to listen with not much word the speaker was something real interesting it seems to have a power to grant almost any desire but that come a with a price possibly a real nasty one. His words about what lies behind the wall seems to heighten her concern a bit sounds like a fishy deal may occur so she decide to speak up. “That sounds rather sketchy not sure you wanna go taking deals like that if he says it’s that bad. So how does this work do I just make a request or is this a trading thing i’m not fully getting it.” Mara waits for Sayaka and Eito to finish up before she walks over to the button and squints at it for a bit before her hand lightly brushes over the button and presses it, she then reaches into her bad she was carrying over her arm she pulls out a brass cog quite shiny yet weird she has one on her and waves it around as she speaks. “Uh hey so if this thing is even one...Well i’m curious say if I offer this Cog for example you give me something within similar reason to this as I understand?”
Sayaka offers a smug grin, yeah sure, there's no way it can actually be THAT bad right, the first thing coming to mind was totally mundane things, like birds, but they're probably looking for something fancier, rarer. Might be a nice way to kill two birds with one stone Alright, I'll drop my ability to see Barriers then. Not like I'll need it. And seeing as I'm one of maybe a hundred who can do that, I think that'll be fair enough.... Of course, Eito pushes his way into the conversation, much to her annoyance. Sayaka sighs before speaking up Think you could wait a minute? Get its kinda a big deal to ya, but still, sheesh. I let you have your turn, jerk.
The voice would seem to stay silent as if thinking of the deal Sayaka offered. It would finally respond in a normal tone. "That deal would be fine. Insert your ability to see barriers into the hatch and we will give you the ability to see past this wall." Sayaka would suddenly feel a jar within her hand. There would be nothing within the jar beside an odd violet light that seemed to fill the jar. The voice would begin speaking to Mara next. It would take a moment for it to even respond which could even seem like it might've ignored them at first. "A physical object such as that is too vague. What would you desire in exchange for the Cog?" Finally the voice would respond to Eito in almost a confused tone. "A life is a hard thing to create fresh, especially something sentient. We simply gave you something from our stock rather than making something new. Of course, you didn't request it's knowledge or memories so those weren't included."
is it too late to join?
Alright, sure then. Still grinning, Sayaka puts the jar inside of the hatch, not really caring for their claims, besides, she's pretty curious about what's on the other side. Though, after setting the jar in, she touches the silver ring on her left hand, focusing on it... Only to come up with nothing. There probably just weren't any nearby to begin with, so its not a great test. But its still better than nothing
Eito looks at Sayaka for a moment, thoroughly uninterested. "You could have started this conversation before I had my morality crisis, speaking of which..." Eito turns to the button, his eyes wide and his frown wider. "I-What do you-I mean-YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M OUT! FUCK THIS AND ALL IT'S TECHNICALITIES!" Eito immediately does a 180 and starts storming out the door, occasionally muttering out insults. OOC:If it wasn't 2AM i'd be so salty right now but I can't muster forth that energy. Sleep calls.
Mara needed to think for a bit what could she possibly use in the moment instead of this nice Cog. She has an idea pop up and wants to try and maybe bargain it out. “Well actually I could use a new wrench since well...last one was powered swad in half by some jack....So you think you got something in your venue to grant my wish? Surprise me I wanna get a gist of this business and what you provide.
As the jar is placed in the hatch it would close slowly. There was a slight vibration as before finally a clank could be heard within the closed hatch. The hatch would open once more with a new jar with a similarly violet light within. "All trades are final until they're not. We hope you gain something out of your trade." The voice would take a moment as a violet colored eye would seem to grow out of the wall before staring at the cog and analyzing it. The eye would close before sinking back into the wall. "It's not about what we have, it's about what you desire. We can provide anything of equal value. A wrench is simple, just state what kind of wrench and what you'd wish for it to be made from."
so can I join?
It kinda looks like the exact same thing in there, what a waste of time, but hey, may as well let their little trick go through to the end. So, Sayaka reaches in to grab the new jar What do ya mean by "until they're not" anyways? Sounds kinda like you're just making this up as you go along
OOC: Open thread but I do plan on stopping soon, at least for the moment. The voice would seem to take a moment as the speaker is taken over by static. Once it begins speaking again after a few minutes have passed it would sound much deeper than before as if it changed once again. "Our trades are final but loopholes exist. No trade can be repeated exactly how it was performed. If you want that kind of information then you'd need to give information of equal value."
Mara grunts a bit having to be so specific she was not in the mood so she responded back irritated. “Jeez why do I have to be so specific just make it out of some indestructible ore or Australiam for all I care so it never break and let it fix anything I damn please when I use it!” She had to step back and calm herself a bit that was a rude overreaction on her part maybe today was just an off day but she somewhat meant those words sour or sweet.
a young boy would walk in, and upon noticing the teenagers around would say "what are you all doing?" after speaking, he would nonchalantly walk past them and notice the button, which he pressed
Sayaka sighs and shakes her head, holding the vision jar in her hand Fine then, forget I asked. I'm hardly some kinda secret keeper or anything, doubt I've got anything you'd consider worthwhile
OOC: Sorry, I think I need to take a break after 4 hours. My ability to write is starting to get a bit tired.
OCC: That’s fine take the rest don’t wanna push yourself and start to strain yourself.
This can continue tom.
