So I played PQ2 over the weekend, and to be honest, it was far more fun than I thought it would be. There was some problems, but it was much more fun than PQ at any rate.
So for the pros of the game over PQ. First off the puzzles are actually rather simple, something I had a problem with in PQ (Mainly the spooky scary club where you legit had to write stuff down onto a physical notepad, and then use it later, or find out a certain pattern in the map that you had to walk in a specific way.) The F.O.E.s are pretty fun to deal with, and I enjoy their design. I wasn't actually expecting to have fun going into the game as the gameplay was the least enjoyable thing when it came to PQ. I don't know how the ticket (Quests I'm guessing) system is, as those are pure text based and I can't read Japanese. The inclusion of the baton pass system is an absolute godsend. You spend 2 leader stars or whatever those things are, and you can pass the boost from one person to another from what I've gathered. It makes dealing with much stronger enemies or bosses much more bearable. Another thing was the fact that the maps are just so fluid and everything flows together instead of being forced to backtrack over the entire map just to do one thing, then go back over and do another thing. Case in point with the Junesassic Park, where there was doors that closed off 2 ways to go, and when you flipped a switch, they turned. I was worried that it would be a pain in the ass to deal with, but it wasn’t too bad. Just playing normally got me around 95% to 100% map completion, and it didn’t feel like I was looking for that one damn spot to step on to get that 100%. It just felt natural and fun. And then you have the BGM. The automatic option for the BGM is just randomly playing the battle music when you unlock them. It’s kinda odd as I’m used to a single battle song playing in persona games, but it’s a welcome addition that kept me from eventually hating the battle themes. Also the fact that when your persona levels up, your skills don’t auto evolve from something like bufu to bufula and cost way more SP than you can reasonably spend per battle. That’s a huge problem I had with PQ. Overall, the game has just really improved on the PQ formula and didn't make the game an absolute chore to play.
