Listening With Lnari: Death Grips
Hi, I’m Lnari, and welcome to my new show where I talk about a certain band/artist. Today we’ll be taking a look at experimental hip hop group Death Grips. Now, if you were to ask me if I like the sound of empty trash bins banging together and squirrels being mauled by lawnmowers, I’d probably say no, but somehow Death Grips make it work. Death Grips appeals to me personally simply because I’ve never heard anything like it, and believe me, it took a WHILE for their music to grow on me. I was appalled the first time I listened to The Money Store for the first time, but something about that album had me coming back for more again and again. It was just so much more interesting and different than almost anything I was listening to at the time. One thing I love about Death Grips is that they change their sound every album, without ever losing the intensity and craziness that their music is known for. They’re definitely not an act for everyone, Andy probably not an act for most, but while I wouldn’t say they’re one of my favorite groups at the moment, there’s almost nothing more exciting in music to me than hearing a new Death Grips album for the first time. Recommend songs to start with: •Get Got •Giving Bad People Good Ideas •Death Grips is Online •Streaky •I Break Mirrors With My Face in the United States
I will also be taking (and probably ignoring) requests for who I should review next.
