Little explanation.

The last shutdown wasn't due to error but because of my hosting provider.

Basicly they told me the forum is overloading their servers and I have to do something to fix that, and they locked access to forum. Turned out counting replies was really heavy process so I deleted that for now, everything seems to be fine.

I'll write new system that counts replies and is more lightweight but unfortunely all old topics won't have reply count anymore.

Posts are counted again.

However it's different now, instead of counting posts the database is updating the count meaning all old topics will start from 0 even though they already have some replies.

Is it kind of like where you have a count variable initialized to zero, and a post causes that variable to increment its value by one?

When there is a single post it seems to say "1 post posts" instead of "1 post"

It's not the best solution because it's not accurate (it doesn't take into account deleted posts, old posts etc) but that's the only solution for now.

@Mishima I don't know the structure you've used for threads and posts, but couldn't you deleting a post just increment it down? I dunno about old posts...You could use a for or while loop to count the number of posts or something, but I can see so many places where trying to do that may do horribly awry.

I don't know anything about this subject matter, as I have no experience with it, but there must be multiple reasons other forums archive old threads. Would you consider that?

Every new feature will add to the problem, however not that much as counting posts, so no worries.
I contacted my hosting provider and it turned out that turning off counting posts resolved problem for now.

Also, they told me that only yesterday the site had nearly 300,000 visits.

I started updating replies for old topics manually, last 100 topics should now have their former posts count restored. I'm gonna update the whole database but it'll take time.
