Wanted: A Bunch of Science Nerds
Got my Marine Bio and Astronomy exams tomorrow and I would like some quick sciency tips.Anything related to these two subjects would be useful.
They exist
@NotIgor

Thanks learning this is really helpful
Just doing my job
I hate science and know jackshit, but good luck
here's a mishima cheering u on in Chinese

@Souji Seta

Same I really hate science, but I was forced to take these two subjects for credit
Best things I learned from science is that the universe will eventually face death
That's the only knowledge we'll ever need to know
The possible heat death of the universe is a thing that now keeps me up at night
@Souji Seta

True once the universe dies there will be no exams
Look on the bright side. You'll never live to see the inevitable heat death of the universe!
@Mishimans
OOC: Whales are mammals, not fish and the Sun is a star, not a planet...kay?
@-Kuma-

That's actually the worst part. I would rather face heat death then take another exam.

@IamThou

That info you just gave me is some good shit. Thanks.
@Mishimans What're you studying to be? Hopefully not a marine biologist or astrologer with how you don't really wanna do these subjects, hahaha.
@Mishimans
OOC: The FitnessGramâ„¢ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20-meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.
@-Kuma-

Nope nothing sciencey cause I suck in anything science based. I am actually on the opposite side of the subject spectrum.
Are you in high school? Or are these for gen ed requirements?
@IamThou

Is the Pacer test even a real thing or was it a hip new meme that I missed out on?
@Mishimans
OOC: I think it is. It has a wiki page
@Souji Seta

These are gen ed requirements for college

wow this thread got kind of personal not that I mind sharing a bit.
@IamThou

Apparently this pacer test is dangerous for anyone above 20 years of age ???
Read Jojo: Part Stone Ocean.

Jotaro is a marine biologist. It's a good read.

Real talk tho, I can't offer much help. But good luck! I'll be rootin' for you!
@imtherealklib

Already read that and it only taught me how to pose like a queen. Thanks for the support I will particularly remember your icon during my struggles.
Steel Ball Run is best part tbh

@Mishimans I feel your pain though. I need to take a College Algebra class before I can graduate and I HATE math. HATE it.
@mishimans @iamthou

Also can confirm Pacer test was real, granted we called it the "Beep Test" or something like that, we did that at school. It sucked. That is all.
-_-;; I'm lucky my major has classes that fulfil the general science requirements...

actually should probably study for my own exam tho lol
The pacer test was Real and it was Horrible
Oh god. I was so thankful I only had to do phys-ed for one year in high school. The beep test was hell.
Look at you guys with your actual phys-ed classes. Most I ever had to do in mine was walk a few laps around a softball field and then I got to sit down and do nothing. Free study hall, ahoy.
@-Kuma-

May the force be with you and any other available higher power since math really sucks. As long as you have a decent calculator you should be able to survive or at least pass with an extra point.

@Souji Seta

Aww you lucky person I am jealous that you managed to get out of taking bs science classes. Since I am an international and legal studies I only have my history requirements covered.
@Mishimans

I don't know anything about marine biology or astronomy, but I wish you good luck all the same!!
Algebra...I mean, math is math, but at least it isn't calculus...that stuff killed me.

@Mishimans -+-;; not like psychology/statistics will get me anywhere, though
What is so bad about the beep/pacer test?

People are now talking about how horrible it is and I am in just sitting in a corner ignorant of this.
you run to the wall before the beep do the boop and it keeps doing the speedy ups and if your tiny and have 0 stamina like me you collapse about halfway through your 10th lap and then sit at the wall and count.
You run back and forth. You have to make it to each side before the beep. The time shortens with each set interval. I hate being physical.
Ah, and there are standards you have to meet and you'll be given a grade based on that. Like, the Illinois standard for females was running 20 something laps
@Enigma

Even if you know little of my plight your support is worth more than a thousand answers related to dolphins.

@Souji Seta

WHAT ??? Won't psych and statistics get you everywhere since they can apply to any area of society.
@Mishimans Hm;; Both are the type that would prefer a Master's if you want to have a competitive edge over your same-field peers in the job market, especially psych...but, you're right, yeah, it's very applicable.
In high school I wasn't even motivated to run more than a lap in phys ed and yet you guys had to go through this hell training.

What is even the purpose for making you people run for such a long time
That's like some Olympic training right there.
It was quite fun to watch people do over 100 laps though.
Some people really made it to 100 laps? Really? What sort of supermen did you go to school with?
Well, we had a track/cross country team that made it to state a fair amount of times (I think. We were more of an academic school so I never paid attention to our athletics. I do know we had a star runner in my year because she was one of the two who went to Harvard).
Also, Illinois requires physical education every year, so I guess that helps? Maybe?
Wow your high school sounds like it was an amazing place.

All we had to do for phys ed in my previous school was the bare minimum since everyone was more artsy. Tell us to run and we would just fast walk, but tell us to paint something and suddenly Yusuke appears.
Don't all U.S. states require four years of phys ed in high school?
Not in my state at least. I did 1 year in high school, and before that 1 year in middle school. The middle school year was harder than the high school year, because even the teachers/coaches got in on hazing the middle school boys.
Hm...not really. We weren't a top school in the state or anything, I believe. It's more like we constantly have a pool of Super Top Nerds and everyone else is average.

That sort of school sounds really nice...even art-inclined talent had an achievement focus in high school.
Nope my school was just insane with all the artsy students in it. Since we were all creative butterflies put into a restrictive environment our talent just created chaos. Every week someone painted Pepe in the bathrooms and at one point wanted posters were put up after some junior gave a senior a sick burn.
Ugh and then we had active rap battles in which money was bet since we had nothing better to do
Definitely have four years of phys ed in my state. Pacer test was always around the start of the school year in my hs so it's just the fact that half of the students weren't so athletic right after summer vacation, myself included. :') At least it only happens once a year.

By the way @Mishimans, what textbooks do you use for your marine bio and astronomy classes? I want to try finding an outline or a study guide of the chapters. Not really feeling like doing my own homework, haha.
@Enigma

The textbook I use for Marine Bio is called the Essentials of Oceanography. Are you really sure you want to do this I mean finding an outline is work and if you are busy with some of your own ish then you don't have to bother for me.
@Mishimans

Found a bunch of power points, but no in depth outlines. Multiple links led me to the same power points, so these might be the ones that your professor is using in class. Hmm...
http://www.oakton.edu/user/4/billtong/eas125/Powerpoint/

When in doubt, quizlet's got your back :')

I'll see if I can find anything else. All I have for today is just reading, and searching through this gave me an outline for my science class and Hoooo am I grateful for it.

@Mishimans

http://catalog.jccc.edu/coursedescriptions/biol/#BIOL_124 gives what to write for the outline, but sadly not the outline already written out :(

Same thing with http://www.csun.edu/~aes15831/subjects/Oceanography/general_documents/Oceanography Learning Target Bundles (final).htm but I'm not sure if this one covers all the chapters in your textbook.

http://ocean.stanford.edu/courses/EARTHSYS8/ has lecture slides of chapters 2-10. The topics of these slides seem to correspond with the power points I sent in my previous post.

Hopefully some of these resources will help o: Best of luck to you on your exams!!
I'm a physics major, but I specialize in quantum, not astro...I'm sorry... :(

*feels bad*

Best of luck though. I have confidence in you @Mishimans!!
