Obscure(ish) Good Games Appreciation Thread
Talk about some of your favorite games that don't get much attention here and why people should play them.

Like Okage: Shadow King.
Play it cuz I asked you to.
I had that game at one point
Can confirm good
Dark Cloud 2.
dark cloud is great
The Lost Dimension.
a turn-based tactical RPG about voting your friends dead. Or they'll try to kill you, yay.
I think Nier Automata is pretty obscure and needs to be praised
Dragons Dogma
Megaman Battle Network Series
I really liked Ghost Trick
Heavy Rain of course
@GETBENT
press x to jason
JAAAAAAASOOOOOON
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
It might be legitimately broken on the PC without a fanmade patch.
But any game where I can play as an insane vampire and argue with stop signs is a great game in my books.

Klonoa series
is ace attorney still obscure??
@Bgammax YES;... PRAISE BE UNT THEE
fire emblem genealogy of the holy war

or any pre-awakening game, fire emblem got reaaaally popular after awakening.
Just about any Eushully VN. Also Alicesoft.
I love Dark Cloud, but have not played 2... [innocent whistling]. Dark Cloud 1 though is one of the games I've played the most.
Ghost Trick is also amazing.

Also I don't think Nier Automata counts as obscure, it's one of the three most talked about games this year from what I've seen.
Knights in the Nightmare is also a good obscure game for DS and PSP, but try not to scream while playing.
N++

Pretty good platformer.
Actually whole N series (N, N+, N++)
I played N+ back when I was an xbox person it was great <3

Also +100 to Dark Cloud mentions.
Oh, it's pretty easy and grindheavy but one of my favorite games on PS3 is White Knight Chronicles.
I don't know why but I find it pretty relaxing to grind in that game even if it means stabbing giants in their shins for hours
Ooo, Rule of Rose is pretty obscure? its a pretty good survival horror game but is pretty rare in english
i got a copy but it cost me liek $130
Wow this thread has some fine taste, WKC was one of my most played things too. It's a shame they dropped it completely >>'
I wish the servers were still alive cuz i wanna make friends play with me and grinding missions solo is really fucking painful and hard sometimes
Oh wow someone else actually played WKC.
Remember the forums.
It had more shitposting than this place.
Comic Jumper is a good
I wish I could have experienced it when it was a thing.

I've only owned it for like 4 months honestly...
Valley. You get a robot exosuit that lets you control life and death, though sort of limited, but the environment and music is great.
too bad there's no way to make a WKC private server ahahaha
Silent Bomber, for the PS1. Blow up a lot of stuff, with really hammy voice acting and a silly 2 player versus mode where you can play as the bosses! Awesome fun. I got addicted to score-running for S ranks when I went back to it last year.
bump cuz i love hearing about games and i may be taking notes on what to look into
Disgaea 5
Or as I like to call it;
Grinding Hell
@HahaRIP Second I saw this thread I thought of just posting "THE ENTIRE DISGAEA SERIES"

does disgaea really count as obscure? especially with 5 entries
I only played the first one tbh
I'd say it is,
I never really see anything about it
Is Stardew Valley obscure? I love that game.
@Mako-chan
Nice choice of games
idk
I guess i did say obscureish but i see a LOT about disgaea and stardew valley
maybe im too deep into the obscureness
Forever Kingdom is another one I enjoy but its clunky as hell and makes me scream because you control 1 character, the AI controls two others

all three have the save health bar
have fun
I don't play obscure games, I watch obscure anime.
Like Symphogear, not sure if you've heard of it.
The only obscure stuff I really do is read obscure manga.
Etrian Odyssey is cool! Y'know the mechanics for pq? they come from that (of course minus personas and all that bc its an entirely different series)

you can make your own team from different classes and portraits, and the untold versions (basically remakes of the games, currently there's only 1 and 2) have that as "classic" mode, while "story" mode has a preset party and animated cutscenes! its super cool!
ah yeah
I didnt really like Persona Q but I do have Etrian 4 and I'm enjoying it
I suck tho
Trauma Team (trauma center too)

Good Wii game tat actually utilizes the Wii motions and has a plot and well-developed characters. Lots of cool medical trivia too if you find that interesting.

Fun fact: Trauma Team is another Atlus game to have a 'comic book' aesthetic like Persona 5. Some of Trauma Team's graphics we were taken and reused for Persona 5 but Trauma Team is so obscure practically nobody noticed.
i googled trauma team and i gotta say
im intrigued

I do believe I'm one of the only six people that have ever played the two Lunar games..
Lunar? As in Silver Star Story or whatever the subtitle is? My sister owns that and it's sequel on PS1 if you mean that. I've been meaning to play it once I... eventually get around to finishing FF9.
Yes, that one. I loved both of those games so much.

FF9 is honestly the best FF, imo
Jade Cocoon is good apparently. Never played. Recommended by a coworker.
The Wonderful 101

Click to load youtube video

FF9 is the best FF confirmed
finger guns AdachiImouto
if I ever get to Lunar I'll let you knoqw... somehow
maybe in like Drinking Party the Third or something

Jade Cocoon does seem very intriguing, but i have yet to play it
i like the artstyle

YEWEEEEE WONDERFUL 101 IS GREAT

doubt
Golden sun.
It didn't use to be obscure but the last time anyone talked about it without me prompting was years ago.
I own some Golden Sun game on DS that I need to get around to
I think it's like
something dawn
999???
I thought that was a good game
I also have 999! and VLR
and ZTD
I love 999/Zero escape. Now that's an underrated series. I tried to make my brother play it but it is such a unique game it is hard to describe it to people
While I'm not a big fan of the recent games in the series, I highly recommend the earlier Tales games. The 2D ones are pretty obscure and Tales of Vesperia on the PS3 is one of my favorite JRPGs.
I have played Tales of Symphonia and Abyss I think
Rabbits go Home on DS
*Rabbids
I'm sorry
I liked Symphonia. Then it p much went downhill. Berseria's MC has the worst character design I've EVER seen and makes me wanna throw up.
Berseria MC? Bad design?
what are you on and where can i get some
Ooc: No More Heroes and Okami are fucking wonderful
I've played most of the ones on the Playstation, well the ones that got ported anyways, and so far I think Graces was my favorite. Although it was also low-key the gayest one by far.
I still need to finish Okami
and I want No More Heroes but
pfffft money
gayest you say
define
Her design is basically 'how many edgy things exist and how many can we slap on a single character' to the point it's a joke. IMO.
@Hibiki
basically half the plot revolved around trying to get their friend Richard back, so of course they always talked about how much they love him. At a certain point you start questioning what's going on there.
Jade Cocoon is a neat game. It plays a bit like pokemon but with SMT-esque demon fusing and the monsters are more nasty looking. You can slam minions together and their appearance stats and elemental affinity all take influences from the two you used. I didn't like the sequel as much.
so not gay as in lesbians? nvm then
yeah i hear the sequel wasnt as good
i do wanna get my hands on it eventually if nothing else for how nice it looks
Velvet's great and Bears managed to beat out Vesperia as my favorite Tales game. Graces is an abomination and deserves to burn.
i rather like the design of the mc in berseria
edgy but not like MAXIMUM EDGE
i think they could have done much worse,

at least the outfit doesnt have 25 belts
admittedly the main plot was pretty cheesy for most of the game, an exception among Tales games, but the combat system was great, as was the post-game.
Idk it has quite a few belts too. She has like 3 around one of her legs. For no reason. *shrug*
I also don't mind Zesty that much, but the whole "everything bad is humanity's fault and seraphim are all good and pure and innocent even when we're a bunch of self-righteous assholes" thing annoyed me. I also didn't like what they did to Alisha. And even though I enjoyed her, Rose was a mess of a character.
I actually -really- liked how equipment worked in Zest. Still didn't manage to finish it though.
my friends says xillia? is his favorite, how is that one
Zesty's equipment and skill system's were a hot mess. I didn't even bother with skills and the way equipment worked made upgrading into way more of a hassle than it needed to be.
There are actually two Xillias. For some reason the first Xillia felt so much longer, but it was neat that you could choose between two protagonists. The second was good, it just started a little slow. Your friends were probably referring to the first one
Jude was a great Tales character <3
Rogue Galaxy
Haunting Ground
Odin Sphere
Grim Grimoire
Final Fantasy Dissidia
Final Fantasy Tatics
Eternal Darkness
Fantasy Life
.... That's about all I can think of besides some of the aforementioned
ODIN SPHEEEEEERE
...I love Eternal Darkness too but never heard of the rest
except the FF games
I THINK? i played Fantasy Life once but not for very long
Rogue Galaxy is a fun space RPG.

Haunting Ground is very similar (and made by capcom) to Rule of Rose: survival horror, have a pooch, puzzles, etc.

Grim Grimoire is an Atlus game with same art style of Odin Sphere. I like to think of it as fantasy Command and Conquer.

Fantasy Life is a 3ds game where it is similar to Rume Factory
Oh, I see
yeah i think i have Rogue Galaxy on my "find this" list

Fantasy Life hmmm
i was never a big fan of rune factory but i do like harvest moon so maybe its close enough id like it
If you have a ps3 or ps4, it's in the Playstation Store
For Rogue Galaxy I mean.
oh, nice
im broke but ill look into it
