Akechi hate thread
Justice? Lol, he's just sour because of his daddy issues
I'm on board with this
I just finished the casino, and what a bastard man.
Having beaten the game, I can say this.

He is, without a doubt, an absolute dick.

Just like his dad.
I'm not trying to say Akechi did nothing wrong.
But Akechi did nothing wrong.
dropping into this thread like a meteor!!
@Skull weren't you the one who was the most triggered by Akechi?
I've given my thoughts on akechi before (not that anyone probably remembers) but i seriously don't understand all the hate he gets. I could understand if it was mostly "his actions are wrong, so i hate him morally" like adachi, but i don't see why people give him such crap for existing. His cluelessness was kind of cute, he had an actual motive that makes more sense than at least 80% of persona villains, and his fight(s) gave me more enjoyment than a lot of other boss fights.
By no means is he perfect, in any way, but i don't think all of the hate is necessary.
@NotAkira all the hate isn't necessary? Oh, you meam how like mass homicide isn't necessary?
his hate mainly seems to be in response to the large amount of apologists he has in the fandom!!

no one really hates adachi because it's pretty universally agreed on that he's a complete jerk!! even the people who like him freely admit that he's a bad person!!

akechi fans, on the other hand, scramble over themselves to defend everything he's ever done and excuse him for his crimes!! their loud and hypocritical defense has proven to be an irritant for a lot of people in the fandom!! on top of that, he's stupidly popular to the point that he's beginning to create a fanwork vacuum, where even creators who don't like akechi are creating things involving or featuring him because it increases their visibility and money making capability!! so even if you don't like him, it's hard to digest fan content without running into his face everywhere you look!! these things mixing together has driving people's contempt for him much higher than it would be for your average antagonist type character!!
@pure-anon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ah!! i hate when you accidentally use the wrong word and can't fix it!!
You're voice is so loud, I can't take it!
@Mona
i said that the moral aspect i can understand, but the majority of dissent is based on just the character as a whole.
The fact that he did something stupid and unecessary like psychotic breakdowns and mental shutdowns that he thinks will help him, but doesn't make sense is part of Akechi's characterization. His common sense has deteriorated and he has gone mad beneath his facade of a calm detective with a weird sense of humor. He's been treated like shit his whole life and is desperately trying to get revenge, with his twisted "justice"

(I'm very, very sorry.)
@Un0 yes, I know the difference
I don't think he's a good person. I don't think hewas just, i just don't think that he couldn't have been a good person. I feel like he could have been the same as the protagonists, if he hadn't been screwed over his whole life.
I don't think he is, but that he could have been.
He also serves to show what the powers the protagonists use can do if used for the wrong reasons, as Adachi and Strega did in p4 and p3 respectively.
I'll just leave, i don't know if i'm even making sense.
you know that he was chosen by yaldabaoth specifically because he was not a good person, right!!

just about every member of the phantom thieves had suffered some kind of personal transgression or troubled past, and yet none of them became self-serving evil douchebags!!
I like Akechi more than Adachi though, he's got brains. But he's a bastard.
I woke up from my extremely long nap to say Fuck Akechi, he is the worst
All of the phantom thieves had troubled pasts, yet, but they all had someone to give them purpose, and their problems mostly started recently. Ryuji had a mother ho cared for him, and had the track team to be with before he snapped (no pun intended) Ann had Shiho, and her problems started with a high school teacher. This continuse ith all of them. Akechi had nobody to rely on, all through life. By the time he recieved his powers, he had gone past the point of being saved. Maybe if his childhood had been even slightly better, or if the Phantom Thieves could have helped him earlier, maybe he could have at least changed a little, even if redeeming him wasn't possible.
ann's problems started way before high school!! she was ostracized everywhere she went for not being fully japanese!! she even mentions that shiho was the only person who treated her normally!!

haru, who you skipped over, also had problems her entire life!! she was raised by someone who only saw her value as a tool!!

you also didn't bring up akira, who is implied to have a similar upbringing to akechi!! there are several hints in the game that akira's parents were not very good parents to him!! despite that, even before the phantom thieves formed, he still made good decisions even though he had a painful past!!
