Labrys said the events are chronological. Though a few things were missing.

Namely, anything involving Lumina. We don't know if we got her heart back, we don't know if she fused with Lightning...

For all it could be... maybe waiting to have them face each other is a mistake. Maybe Lightning, when not whole, can't help us get the heart back.
