What was the point of Marie?

I haven't played Golden yet and probably never will (*censored* proprietary memory cards), so I curious, what was the point of Marie? I've occasionally seen people say something about her tying into Izanami, but how? And if they really wanted to do something about Izanami, why not just use her instead?

Besides, Izanami's design is WAAAAY better than Marie's.

marie was basically the attempt by atlus higher ups to sell the same game to people who had bought it already by attaching a visually appealing waifu to it!!

unfortunately, they put no money into making sure the character was actually good!!

her point was actually part of izanami which she was the one who spread the fog, so she wanted to die there, so yu came to save her.

anyway, marie's point is to add an extra layer of depth and flavor to the game, as well as giving an extra waifu to bang and shitty poems to be made fun of. Also, FSTEAK.
