Flaws are sometimes a characters most interesting traits. Damn classics drilled that into me with all the work I did on Achilles, Odysseus and Aeneas.

There is quite the disparity in the range of quality in many cases, but there are those with the ability to weave quite the tale here. Simply dismissing everyone to be at such a low standard doesn't sit well with me.

Mido speaks wise words once more. Besides, even if the writing quality varies, isn't this a good thing? This means we can learn from each other, both about writing and characters.

@Mido There's a difference in playing a character, and making that character come to life in your playing off them.
I have only seen the former here.
Most of everything I see seems to formulaic and pre-determined in how things flow.
Which is less role-playing and more just writing midlevel fanfiction.
Sure it may be fun/interesting, but it hardly stands out.

I see. While thwere are a few examples of events I can undoubtedly list as far from being predetermined I can understand your point and where you're coming from. Your perception of the people that RP is something I'll accept I can't fully agree with and leave it there unless you wish to get into that further. Perhaps your standards for RP are just much higher than mine, or I lack the experience beyond my love of writing but I see various diamonds in the rough that is the Phansite. Not everyone is going to be at, or rise to the quality that you seem to be lamenting a lack of. But, my main concern is that those involved have fun, not that they be good at RP. So we may not be able to fully agree on this topic.

I apologize of I strayed away from the main issue at hand and for the length of time this post took to make. Being on mobile is a time consuming experience when you have a lot to say.

It's not that I have higher standards of roleplay itself.
Its that I have higher standards of character writing.
People can act however they like. I just would prefer better performances.

There's a ton more professional sites out there. With an established character system, with GM approval, and a single unified canon.

Mary sues kill tension and fun for everyone except the person playing them, being professional isn't the problem
