Meh. Look at the facts. Hibiki messed up and didn't get out in time and this caused Kanade to focus on protecting her and not fighting full power.

Actually if you read all of the background info, Kanade was doomed from the start due to lack of LiNKER in her system to stabilize. She would have died at that concert whether she was protecting Hibiki or not. Also, interesting to note that given the records of the concert incident, Hibiki staying behind ironically increased her chances of survival.
